Food festival at World Harvest Festival 2010 to promote traditional fare

A NEW highlight of the coming World Harvest Festival 2010 is the Dayak Food Festival that promises delectable food from the Iban, Bidayuh and Orang Ulu communities.

It will be held at Sarawak Cultural Village’s (SCV) Iban longhouse on May 29 and 30.

Assistant Tourism and Heritage Minister Datuk Talib Zulpilip said the Dayak Chamber of Commerce and Industry would hold the festival to promote traditional food and beverages to visitors.

Among others, there would be manok pansoh (chicken cooked in bamboo), pogang (glutinous rice cooked in bamboo), terambok (glutinous rice cooked in pitcher plant) and tuak (rice wine), he said.

“There will be 11 stalls selling the food and drinks at SCV’s Iban longhouse,” he told a press conference in Kuching on Sunday night.

SCV will host the 6th WHF, an event that provides an opportunity for non-Dayaks to understand the culture, traditions and aspirations of the Dayak communities as a grand prelude to the statewide Gawai celebrations.
