Sarawak Regatta 2010 Results

THE Sarawak Land and Survey Department defended its position as the “King of River” after it emerged champions in the Bidar 30-man paddlers finals, the main event at the Sarawak Regatta 2010.

The department won through one of its long boat teams, Landas 6. For their effort they pocketted RM3,500 and a trophy.

The second place went to team Jang, a corporate-sponsored long boat; they took home RM3,000 and a trophy. The third place went to team Pusaka 8 of Sarawak Timber Industry Development Corporation which received RM2,500 and a trophy.

Guest of honour Head of State Tun Muhammad Salahuddin gave away the prizes and closed the three-day crowd puller which saw people from all walks of life flocking the Kuching Waterfront to watch the spectacle on the Sarawak River yesterday.

The Kuching Resident’s Office in collaboration with government agencies and the private sector organised the regatta under the theme, “The Race For Peace”.

The second Rajah of Sarawak Sir Charles Brooke initiated the Sarawak Regatta in 1872 to avoid civil war and bloody confrontation as well as to nurture healthy integration and sportsmanship amongst the racers that were always hostile to each other.

Land and Survey director and team manager Datuk Surdasono Osman congratulated his men for retaining the title which they had won many times since the department took part in the annual event in the mid-1980s.
