SIBU: The cancellation of Firefly operations between Peninsular Malaysia and Sarawak and Sabah would severely hamper the development of the state tourism industry.

PKR Lanang division chairman George Chen said the government should, in fact, encourage more foreign airlines to operate these routes to attract foreign investments and ensure that the local produce could be exported promptly.

Chen urged the governments of Sarawak and Sabah to take immediate steps to get Firefly to resume their flights in the two states.
