Sitar maestro to perform at Sarawak Rainforest World Music Festival on July 15

KUCHING: The coming Rainforest World Music Festival (RWMF) could be the culmination of sitar maestro Samuel J Dass’ musical career.

Dass from Kuala Lumpur with his flying fingers and sensitive treatment of all the nuances in playing the sitar has earned him deep respect as well as winning him seven gold medals and a silver for all the categories he took part in at the World Championship of Performing Arts in Los Angeles, USA.

He has done much for Hindustani music in Malaysia, infusing both classical and contemporary genres with his deep understanding of the Malaysian culture in his compositions.

He will perform at the RWMF with virtuoso tabla player, Prakash, on July 15.

Festival goers can experience daytime musical workshops and intimate evenings at the RWMF to be held at the Sarawak Cultural Village from July 13 to 15. Tickets are still on sale at the Visitors’ Information Centres (VIC) in Kuching, Miri and Sibu or online at www.rwmf.net.
