Sabah Matta Travel Fair from July 5 to 7 at Suria Sabah Mall

KOTA KINABALU: The Sabah’s version of its Matta Travel Fair this weekend will be the largest as the number of participants has doubled that of last year’s.

The fair from July 5-7 at Suria Sabah Mall will have 100 booths taken up by 19 travel agents, four tourism bodies and five travel-related products and services organisations.

MATTA Sabah Chapter chairman, KL Tan said the response from participants is an indication of the vibrant travel industry and the confidence in the local economy.

“Consumers now have more disposal income for leisure travel,” he said while noting that local inbound tour operators are returning to join in the fair, which augurs well for the local domestic tourism.

Regarded as Malaysia’s No.1 travel fair, Tan said the event is an excellent opportunity for those who are planning to go for holidays to pick the best “value for money” travel packages.

The 3-days free admission event will showcase a wide variety of travel packages for visitors to choose from by the various exhibitors under one roof. The organiser is anticipating a turnout of 60,000 visitors “We will continue our focus to be relevant and community-centred.

As a community gives back in conjunction with the MATTA Fair, there will be various performances by students from the faculty of Tourism, Kuala Lumpur Metropolitan University Cosmopoint Sabah. “Students will also be selected to assist the MATTA secretariat to gain exposure in event management.

“This is also a way for MATTA Sabah Chapter to encourage the young generation to learn more and to create awareness on the potentials of the tourism industry in Sabah” said Tan.

Daniela Kinsik, the organising chairperson of the Matta Fair Sabah 2013 added that with participating airlines offering discounted fares coupled with attractive hotel and tour rates, it will be an exciting fair for consumers.
