Mount Kinabalu's Mountain Search and Rescue Unit ready in September 2015

KOTA KINABALU: The Mountain Search and Rescue Unit (MOSAR), comprising mountain guides who have been trained as auxiliary firemen, is expected to be operational this September.

State Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) director Nordin Pauzi said the selected mountain guides were expected to commence training in August.

Nordin said the newly-established MOSAR would be stationed at Mount Kinabalu to provide rescue service for hikers in the event of an emergency or natural disaster.

He said this during a courtesy call by Minister of Special Tasks cum Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) president Datuk Teo Chee Kang here yesterday.

Teo has led his party members to distribute Raya goodies to Bomba, the Royal Malaysian Police Force (PDRM) and the Malaysian Army to mark their appreciation towards the personnel’s commitment in executing their duties during the festive season.
