OurGoldenYear.wordpress.com: Cruising the South China Sea (between Borneo and Vietnam)

The area we are sailing through today is one of the world’s most important waterways. One-third of all commercial shipping passes through these waters.

We attended the port talk about Brunei. Not many cruise ships stop here, do they may not be experts in tourism, but that is part of the travel adventure.

Brunei is one of the world’s richest countries. Its official name is “Nation of Brunei, the Abode of Peace”. The capital is Bandar Seri Begawan which the locals refer to as simply BSB. The country is the size of Rhode Island.

The country has been ruled by the same bloodline of sultans for over 600 years. We were told not to wear yellow or gold since in Brunei those colors are reserved for the royal family.

A beautiful mosque built by the current sultan has a solid gold dome and can hold 5,000 worshipers. Should be something to see!

We did much better with today’s Trivia questions. I finished the blog for Semarang. I am trying to stay current. We have fewer sea days ahead of us, so blogging time will be limited.

There was an Atrium concert this afternoon by our resident pianist, Ferry P. Bedy. He played many of his own compositions. Some staff members sang solos during the concert accompanied by Ferry.
